Sometimes it is better to find out who is running the show

//...my world...\\

From what I can understand on this blog, it is a poorly executed tournament (which is expected when the organizers haven't approached the right people, ie the Interschool Scrabble Championship committee or the national association; both of whom are recognized bodies)

This makes it more important for each and every player to be responsible for finding out about the tournament in advance.
If there is something fishy about a tournament, best clarify it with the organizers beforehand or just observe this tournament during the competition to see if you are comfortable with the organization of it.
Most of the tournament rules are codified by the national association but independent organizers may have house rules that they should be announced beforehand.

As far as I know, the current competitive lexicon is still SOWPODS (aka OSW-International edition). A lexicon update should happen later this year when Mattel is switching from Chambers to Collins. So I really don't know what lexicon these organizers are using.

If people have any queries about private competitions (since this one was not sanctioned by either recognized bodies), I suggest that you people do get in contact with Mrs. Yap (012-302 2053) from the Interschool committee before taking any plunge.

If it is an unafair tournament, can the Interschool comitee refuse to accept the results and have another tournament that is fair and SOWPOD-ish?

I think this tournament is not part of the Interschool Championship that Mattels runs, so Mattel's jurisdiction may not apply.
